It was a hell of fire and steel in Ukraine when a 77-year-old woman was trapped in the middle of a Russian bombardment near Lyman, where she had lived her entire life and which was now an area of rubble and explosions.

The 60th Brigade spotted her through their cameras, and the soldiers wanted to go get her, but they knew any attempt would be dangerous; the enemy fire was too intense.

So they did the only thing they could do: send in a robot, which they covered with a blanket to make it look less threatening, and they taped a note to it: “Grandma, climb on!”

She saw it approaching and hesitated, but there was no time for questions. For four hours, the robot moved forward while the operators guided her from a distance.

Finally, soldiers were waiting for her in a safe area. They loaded her into an armored vehicle and were able to extract her safely and soundly.
