In Alberta, Canada, a 79-year-old man walked into a beauty school determined to learn something he never imagined he would need: how to style and apply makeup for his wife.
They have been together for 50 years. She had always taken great care with her hair and makeup, but vision problems began to take away that little routine that made her feel good. He did not hesitate. At Delmar College of Hair and Esthetics, he practiced on a mannequin, learned how to use a brush and curling iron, and even asked for tips on applying mascara without hurting her.
“This loving gentleman came in today to learn how to curl his wife’s hair. She is unable to do it and frequently burns herself, so we went ahead and taught him how to curl her hair. We had the pleasure of teaching him! We explained how to create voluminous curls in short hair, how to protect her skin from burns, and even taught him how to apply mascara.
My team and my students were moved by his desire to help his wife for more than 50 years. He took photographs out of his wallet and showed everyone his wife, talking about how beautiful she has always been and how talented she was at typing up to 100 words per minute when she worked”.

No one asked him to. No one forced him. He did it because, after five decades, love is also shown by holding a mirror so the other person can continue feeling like herself.
