At the Indian Army’s Institute of Cardio-Thoracic Sciences in Pune, a medical team decided not to risk major surgery: they opted for a bronchoscopy, a minimally invasive technique that requires a steady hand and zero margin for error when the patient weighs only a few kilograms.
The Indian Army’s Southern Command confirmed that the procedure carried a high risk of pulmonary collapse. Even so, the doctors managed to remove the bulb intact and, minutes later, the baby was breathing normally again, without complications. The before-and-after X-rays, shared by the Army itself, show exactly what that tiny little body managed to overcome.
