It happened in Colombia and has shocked the entire world. During a routine ultrasound, doctors discovered that another fetus was developing inside little Itzamara’s womb.
It is a “fetus in fetu”, an extremely rare medical condition that occurs only once in a million births. Since the second fetus had neither a heart nor a brain and continued to grow, doctors had to schedule a C-section at 37 weeks and, the following day, perform emergency surgery on the newborn to remove it.
Fortunately, the surgery was a success, and Itzamara is recovering well. A true miracle of medicine!
