A boy from Kazakhstan came in for a consultation complaining of very severe ear pain. What the doctor found inside the ear canal was anything but routine.

In the video, recorded by a witness who was present during the procedure, the doctor can be seen inserting the tweezers again and again. Each time, a gray larva, still alive, comes out and is placed in a surgical steel container. By the end, there were almost a dozen. They measure close to 1 centimeter and are believed to be bluebottle flies or flesh flies.

The theory is that they fed on the boy’s flesh and hatched inside his ear. Had he not received timely care, they could have reached his brain and killed him, the outlet warns.
Aida Abdybekova, deputy director of Kazakhstan’s Scientific Research Veterinary Institute, said the case is not unique: there are times when insects lay eggs or larvae inside the human ear canal, especially in children under 10 or in people who are weak. Symptoms include ringing in the ears and discharge of a foul-smelling liquid.
