Seven pages. That is what a boy wrote before leaving his cat Bootsie at the Simpson County Animal Shelter in Franklin, Kentucky. It was not just any note: it had hand-drawn pictures showing how to pet him, which areas to avoid, and how he responds when given a paw or a high-five.
The letter explained in detail who Bootsie is: curious, affectionate, a fan of sitting on laps, but unable to get along with other cats, not even his own brother. It also warned about a past health issue, so that whoever adopted him would know how to care for him properly.
A 44-year-old shelter volunteer shared the story on Reddit and received more than 30,000 upvotes in less than 24 hours. She herself told Newsweek that it was impossible not to cry while reading it. The boy ended the letter with a phrase that sums it all up: he wants Bootsie to someday be a chubby, loving, and happy cat.
