It was raining in Milwaukee, and Stephany K. was driving her route like any other Monday. Then she saw it.
A soaked dog, alone, dodging cars in the middle of the street, looking as if it had no idea where to go. She could have kept driving and hoped another driver would stop. Instead, she braked the bus, opened the door, and called out to it: “Come here, buddy”. The dog climbed aboard, wagging its tail.
What happened next was captured by the bus’s own camera. The dog shook off the water, greeted the passengers, and walked down the aisle as if it had found shelter. Stephany notified dispatch and had the dog sit in her seat so it would be safe until help arrived.
A route supervisor took it to the Milwaukee police to look for its family. And then came the happy ending: according to local media, the dog was reunited with its family, who had been looking for it.
Sometimes kindness doesn’t require grand gestures. All it takes is opening a door just when someone needs it.
