A Cambodian farmer didn’t even have 7 dollars to buy his son a new backpack. So he did the only thing he knew how to do well: weave.
Ny Keng, 5, had lost his during a school trip to Thailand. His dad took raffia, sat down for an entire night, and put together, thread by thread, a blue backpack with black straps so his son wouldn’t miss classes at Lumpath Primary School.
Sophous Suon, the boy’s teacher, saw the backpack and couldn’t stay silent: she uploaded the photos to Facebook.
Thousands of people were moved by the gesture, and several even offered him help so he could turn that father’s love into a small business making woven backpacks.
Sometimes a lack of money doesn’t stop affection; it just forces it to invent another way to show itself.
