A cedar door fell on Ana María Saavedra during the Cali earthquake and ended up being the only thing that kept her alive

Ana María Saavedra was 23 years old and was leaving her apartment when the building began to collapse. 🏚️

She was one of three triplets, all recently graduated in international business from Icesi University in Cali. When the 7.4-magnitude earthquake brought down the building in the Cuarto de Legua neighborhood, a cedar door fell right on top of her.

It crushed her, leaving her trapped under rubble, but it also covered her like a shield. Her head remained free. She was able to scream, and the neighbors heard her within five minutes.

Thirty minutes later, she was already at the clinic, undergoing pelvic surgery. The rest of her family was not as fortunate: her parents, Jairo and Victoria, were found embracing among the ruins; her sisters Sofía and Isabella did not survive, nor did her uncle Diego Efraín.

“My God is very great”, her uncle Carlos repeats today, as Ana María begins to walk again. 🙏
