Matías Rodríguez is a construction worker who has diabetes and travels with Logan, a 5-year-old Great Dane trained to detect changes in his blood sugar and alert him before an emergency. In February, that same dog flew with him from Chile to Vancouver via Aeroméxico without any problems.

On Saturday, October 24, at Vancouver airport, Aeroméxico told them the flight was full and there was no room for Logan. They were rebooked for the following day and, according to his friend and translator Vynka Contreras, the response was the same. Rodríguez offered to buy three seats together. On Tuesday, they asked him to buy a business-class ticket for more than 3.000 dollars, with no guarantee that they would be able to board.

For some, the airline has a real space limit. For others, a medical service dog can’t be left behind or cost a fortune. Which side are you on?
