Bobbi didn’t know it, but every step she took was a beacon.
When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, thousands of families evacuated and had to leave their pets behind. Bobbi, a dog, had been tied up with a chain to keep her safe. Her owners never returned, so she had to free herself and head out into the devastated streets, dragging that metal behind her. Behind her, always a few steps away, was Bob Cat, a cat who couldn’t see a thing: he had survived the storm and months of hunger by following the chain’s jingling.
Four months later, a worker helping rebuild the city found them at a construction site and took them to a shelter. There, the volunteers discovered that the cat was blind. The first night, they separated them, but they made such a racket that the staff brought them back together the next day, and they snuggled up immediately.
Bobbi kept watch over Bob Cat and became protective if anyone new came near. They were adopted together and now live on a ranch in Oregon.
