Neto Bran didn’t send anyone in his place.
The mayor of Mixco, Guatemala, learned that a little dog had fallen into a sinkhole that had opened up on a street in the Pablo VI neighborhood, and went to the scene of the emergency. When it was time to climb down into the hole to look for him, he went down himself.
Down there, away from cameras and speeches, he managed to get the dog to safety. The animal was brought out of the sinkhole and taken to the municipal shelter, where, according to reports, he is in good condition and under the care of the authorities.
For once, a dog with no known name had an entire mayor willing to climb into a hole for him. Now he has a safe place to recover, and perhaps, with a little luck, a home waiting for him.
