Audra Petraškienė was just driving along the river, near her home in Lithuania.
Something was moving at the side of the road: a soaked dog, trembling and barely able to move. She stopped and approached, and then understood what had just happened. Someone had tied an improvised metal anchor around its neck and thrown it into the water so it would never get out again. The dog got out on its own. No one knows how.
“He’s a true fighter”, said Andra, Audra’s daughter, while recounting the story. Her mother took him home, removed the weight from his neck, dried him off, and then took him to the vet. The dog had no serious injuries and recovered surrounded by care. Audra has already reported the case to the police, determined that whoever did this will not go unpunished. Meanwhile, a dog who was supposed to die at the bottom of a river slept safely for the first time in a long time.
