He didn’t move from there.

They found the dog curled up at the bottom of a ditch filled with mud, trembling in the rain. The rescuers from The Dodo believe he once had a home because he kept staring toward the road, as if he expected to recognize the car of the person who had left him there. No one came back. Only the mud, the water, and that impossible-to-extinguish instinct: the faith that someone would return.
When they finally got him out of the ditch, he was exhausted, but he never stopped approaching every person who crossed his path, as if he still wanted to trust. That mixture of fear and tenderness was exactly what moved those who met him. No one came back to look for him on that road, but someone else did later: someone willing to give him the home he had lost.
