In Cape Coral, Florida, neighbors began walking while looking over their shoulders. Not because of a burglar or a vandal, but because of a duck.
Jimmy, a hand-raised Muscovy duck with not a shred of fear of humans, proclaimed himself the owner of the neighborhood. He bit James Sepulveda while the man was peacefully enjoying his evening on the porch, leaving his hand bleeding. He spread his wings in an attack pose at Richard Guy as if he were about to declare war on him. And according to reports, he even sent an elderly man to the emergency room. Not even the reporter covering the story was spared: the camera caught her fleeing from the duck during a live broadcast.
The bizarre thing is that, under federal law, even wildlife officers were not allowed to touch Jimmy. The one who had to show up was Mark Quadrozzi, a rescuer who bluntly described him as “a punk”, and who managed in just one hour to do what no one else could: catch him. Today Jimmy lives in a sanctuary, surrounded by other ducks who, hopefully, are considerably less violent than he is 🦆
