He had a foolproof plan. Or so he thought. 🐱
On March 21 in Overland Park, Kansas, an orange-and-white cat detected the universal alarm signal: his owner was approaching with that particular energy only someone about to put him in a carrier has. Immediate response — disappear. The feline found what seemed like the perfect hiding place: the internal mechanism of a mechanical recliner. He squeezed in between the metal bars of the system and stayed there, sure he had won. What he failed to account for is that recliner mechanisms have absolutely no respect for vet-avoidance strategies.

When the owner realized what had happened, he had to call the Overland Park Fire Department and the OPPD animal control unit. They arrived with tools, a blowtorch and, finally, a saw. They cut the armchair apart. The cat came out unharmed, with all his dignity intact according to himself. And then the inevitable happened: after all the drama, the rescue, and the firefighters, his owner took him to the vet anyway for his annual checkup. 🐾

The moral is simple and brutal: no matter how hard you try, the vet always wins.
