Naoto Matsumura returned to Fukushima just to feed his dogs. 🐾
It was 2011, and the Japanese government had evacuated everyone after the earthquake and the radioactive leak from the nuclear power plant. Naoto left too. But when he returned for his animals, he found a ghost farm teeming with life: cats, pigs, cows, ducks, an ostrich, all abandoned to their fate. The veterinarians asked him to euthanize them. He said no.
15 years later, he is still there, in Tomioka; since 2017, he has no longer been the only human in the area. They call him “the champion of radiation” because he is the man most exposed to it in all of Japan. Even so, every morning he brings clean water and food to his animals, including a little dog he named Kiseki: miracle. 🐶✨
