Teresa Lashley wanted to let a relative know that her daughter Lindsey had just had a baby with Mark. She typed the message, sent it quickly, and did not check the number carefully. On the other end, miles away from that joy, it was received by a stranger named Dennis Williams.
Anyone else would have deleted the message. Dennis did not. He replied to Teresa to let her know about the mistake, but first he told her he loved the baby’s name and congratulated her as if he were part of the family. Then he called his brother Deorick, and together they decided to do something no one expected: show up at the hospital with a gift for a baby they had never seen.
Teresa shared it on Facebook, still surprised by the scene. Two strangers, their hands full of affection, standing at the door of her room. “If we all had that kind of heart”, she wrote. Sometimes the wrong number ends up leading exactly to the right place.
