Peeling potatoes had never been so important. At a family gathering, a grandmother decided that before accepting her granddaughters’ boyfriends as part of the family, they had to earn their place with their hands: knife, potato, and peel in between.
She sat them at opposite ends of the table and placed herself right in the center, like the official judge of the most unexpected contest of the year. While the rest of the family cheered on the contestants amid laughter, the matriarch watched every cut, every peel, every second wasted. In the end, she gave her unfiltered verdict. Andrés finished first, but sliced off too much. Alberto was slower, although he didn’t waste a single piece. And as she herself explained, what mattered was not speed but not ruining the potato.
The video has already racked up more than 50,000 reactions on TikTok, and users couldn’t let the brilliance go unnoticed: “Now we know who won’t be joining the family”, wrote one. Another went further: “That should be a family requirement”. Who would have thought that love is also measured in peels.
