On the Greek island of Syros, nearly 3,000 stray cats live alongside just 21,000 people. Many of them arrived sick, abandoned or injured at the hands of Syros Cats, an organization that has been rescuing them one by one since the 1990s.
They are now looking for people willing to lend the helping hands they need. In exchange for five hours a day for at least a month—feeding, cleaning, giving medicine and affection—they offer accommodation, breakfast and basic services overlooking the Aegean Sea. There is no salary, but there is something money cannot buy either: the gaze of a cat beginning to trust again.
Applications for 2027 open in September, and it is already known that hundreds of applications will arrive from all over the world. Would you trade a month of your routine for this?
