She wanted a cute photo for social media, but ended up learning the basic rule of the countryside: if a sheep has a sheepdog, it’s better not to touch it. A tourist in the Netherlands grabbed a sheep to pose with it, not realizing that it belonged to a protected flock.
In the video that went viral, the woman can be seen grabbing the animal as if it were part of the scenery, without noticing she wasn’t alone. Because of course, where there are sheep, there is usually someone watching over them… and in this case, that “someone” was a herding dog doing its job.

And the dog did exactly what it had to do. When it saw her holding the sheep, it rushed straight to defend it, without thinking too much. Whether it was out of malice, ignorance, or the desire to take a photo didn’t matter: to him, it was still a threat.
The reaction was quick and made one thing clear: in the countryside, this is not up for debate. These dogs are trained to protect the flock, so they’re not going to distinguish between a predator and someone with a phone in hand.

In the end, the tourist didn’t get the selfie she expected, but she did get a pretty clear lesson. Because some photos simply aren’t worth the risk… and even less when there’s a dog doing its job well.
