Tobey Maguire discovered that sometimes it’s better not to tell young fans the whole truth 😂. During an interview, the actor recalled the day a child approached him convinced that the Spider-Man he saw on screen could really climb walls and asked him directly: “How do you climb up the wall?”.
Tobey decided to explain to him how they filmed those scenes. Instead of climbing vertically as it appeared in the movie, the crew placed the wall on its side, in a horizontal position, and he basically crawled across it. Then, thanks to the camera angle, the result gave the impression that Spider-Man was defying gravity.
The problem was that as soon as he finished his explanation, he realized what he had just done. That child wasn’t asking about special effects: he wanted to know Spider-Man’s secret. “I just destroyed this kid”, he recalled, laughing.

“By the way, he and I are fine now. I think what you basically have to do is lie”, Tobey joked afterward 😂. Perhaps that little boy didn’t learn how to climb walls, but he did discover ahead of time one of the tricks behind his favorite superhero.
