Sometimes adults overcomplicate everything, and then a child comes along and gives us a lesson in emotional intelligence. This little girl went viral after telling her mother, Verónica Varela, that one of her classmates called her “ugly” right in the middle of her birthday celebration.

Instead of crying, she responded with incredible confidence: “I don’t care because I know I’m pretty, and what you say is an opinion, not a fact.”
With that sentence, she made it clear that her self-esteem does not depend on what others think. “Even my gut flora is beautiful, and so is my heart,” the girl continued. Her mother proudly shared the video online, celebrating the fact that her daughter did not let one cruel comment ruin her special day.

It’s ironic that we sometimes need a child to remind us how to protect ourselves from other people’s criticism. She perfectly understood that dignity comes from what you believe about yourself. “I love you, Fe,” her mother concluded, ending a parenting story that is now spreading across the internet because of the little girl’s maturity.
