A video recorded in Mexico showed something that at first glance seemed unfair: a father was walking with his dog in his arms while his young son walked beside him, holding his hand. Social media was quick to judge him. They called him a bad father. They asked why his pet mattered more than his own son.
He didn’t argue. He simply explained: “The ground is hot and my dog is barefoot”. His son was wearing shoes, protected from the scorching asphalt under the Mexican sun. The dog was not. Its paws, with no barrier at all, were minutes away from suffering real burns on that pavement.
The criticism turned into applause. Veterinarians later reminded people of the 7-second rule: if the ground burns your hand in that time, it burns a dog’s paws. That father did not choose one over the other. He simply understood, before anyone else, who needed more help at that moment.
