A man entered a dog shelter drunk in the middle of the night. He didn’t steal anything, he just wanted to be surrounded by them after losing his pet

The shelter’s cameras showed a man walking alone down the kennel hallway after midnight. The dogs were awake, watching him from behind the bars. The staff thought it was a robbery.

It wasn’t. When another camera caught him, he was curled up on the floor, surrounded by dogs. He had been drinking that night because his own dog had died the previous week from cancer, and that was the only place he could think to go. Police arrested him for trespassing, no animals were hurt, and he took absolutely nothing.

The shelter workers said watching the footage was difficult. Not because he was threatening, but because it was too human: a broken man searching, in dogs he didn’t know, for some of the love he had just lost. 🐾
