In a house in Orange, in southeastern France, a man opened some cardboard boxes that had been stored for some time and found five fetuses in a state of decomposition. He did so just after his 32-year-old wife was taken to the hospital after giving birth on Sunday. A day earlier, the two had argued over the contents of those same boxes.
According to a source in the investigation cited by Le Parisien, the woman complained of abdominal pain when the argument occurred. The husband took the bag containing the remains to the hospital, and it was the medical center itself that alerted the police. The Carpentras prosecutor’s office opened a criminal investigation, although no arrests have been made so far.
The source added that the woman had had three miscarriages prior to Monday’s birth. The couple also has two children, aged eight and twelve, and remains under investigation while she continues to be hospitalized, with no formal charges yet.
