The crime took place between March 24 and 25, 2024, in Río Bueno, Chile. The perpetrator was Francisco Uribe Obando, known as the “Jackal of Río Bueno”.

Uribe worked at an optical store chain owned by his brother, Iván Raúl Uribe Obando, 39. According to the investigation, workplace disagreements and his dismissal may have prompted the attack.

The prosecutor’s office established that he planned the murders before entering the family home.

Armed with a kitchen knife, he fatally attacked his brother, Alejandra Tapia, 43 and four months pregnant, and their daughter, Valentina, who was just 10 years old.

A fourth woman was also attacked, but survived and managed to call for help. Her testimony proved crucial in solving the crime.

On October 20, 2026, the court found Uribe guilty of three aggravated murders, one attempted murder, and conditional threats.

The prosecutor’s office requested qualified life imprisonment. The sentence will be announced on November 2.

A family dispute ended with three lives taken and a survivor who was able to tell what happened.
