A man spent nearly 40.000 dollars to cryogenically preserve his terminally ill dog so he could see her again someday

Dale Pearce wasn’t ready to say goodbye to Neren.

This Melbourne video game developer rescued the Australian kelpie when she was two years old, and for nearly a decade they were inseparable: afternoons in front of the TV, trips to cafés together, travel, and lots of love. Until the worst diagnosis came: terminal cancer.

Rather than give up, Dale made an extreme decision. He spent nearly 40.000 dollars, according to People, on travel and services, and crossed half the planet to reach the Cryonics Institute in Michigan. Before that, he arranged a two-week farewell that took them around Australia, Hawaii, and San Francisco. Neren was euthanized at a veterinary clinic near the institute so her body could be preserved as quickly as possible, at around -196 degrees.

Sadly, there is no evidence that revival through cryopreservation is possible, and the institute itself admits that no one has been revived after cryonic freezing. Dale knows this. Even so, he maintains that it’s worth it if there’s even the slightest chance of seeing her again. Madness or love taken to the extreme?
