Albert Bailey had a plan, and it was to give them advance notice. It was a Tuesday afternoon at a People’s Bank branch in Fairfield, Connecticut. The phone rang: someone demanded 100.000 dollars in large bills and threatened a “bloodbath” if they didn’t have it ready. What the man hadn’t counted on was that he was giving the employee all the time in the world. She hung up and immediately called 911.

While she was talking to the police, his accomplice was already inside, in line with a note for the teller. But the bank had activated its security lockdown, and patrol cars were already surrounding the place. According to police, the suspect took about 900 dollars and very politely asked to be allowed to leave. An officer was waiting outside and ordered him to stop. He tried to run toward the car where the other man, a minor, was waiting, and both ended up being arrested without incident.

Detective Michael Gagner said he’d never seen anyone call ahead to say “get the money, we’re on our way”. At the police station, they laughed at that detail. Bailey, 27, and a resident of Bridgeport, was on parole for another bank robbery from a few years earlier. They now face charges of first-degree robbery and threats. This case is from 2010, and no one has topped that method yet.
