Nicholus Murphy was recording his shift when he saw something he couldn’t erase from his mind.
A neurodivergent coworker was tied by the ankles to a metal countertop in the kitchen of a Wendy’s restaurant in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, with garbage bags used as rope. Murphy told WSMV that manager Michiko Burton had explained to them that she did not want to be “taking care of” the employee and that she needed him to “stay still” while she did other tasks. Seeing the scene left him on the verge of tears.
When police arrived to question her, Burton changed her story: she said that it was all part of a TikTok trend, a harmless joke, and that the worker had participated of his own accord. Since the employee said he was neither upset nor hurt, no charges were filed. But his family was not reassured and pressured police so much that they reopened the case this week, questioning everyone involved again. Burton has already been fired, although she has not faced charges for what she did so far. 😡
