White tablecloths, candelabras, floral arrangements and dishes served under steel cloches. Everything was set for a banquet that ended up sparking indignation among those who considered such a display excessive.

On September 28, renowned French chef Thierry Marx organized a fine-dining meal for 39 dogs at the Carnavalet Museum in Paris, together with Bab’in, a pet food brand.

The four-legged guests enjoyed a menu that included chicken, basmati rice, carrots with meat juice in gelatin and edible flowers. The goal was to set a Guinness World Record and, at the same time, support a charitable cause.

However, the initiative sparked criticism for being considered an unnecessary luxury while many French families are facing economic difficulties. Chef Yannick Delpech even publicly questioned Marx and cast doubt on the event’s commercial motives.

Amid the controversy, Marx defended his decision to prepare high-quality food for animals and noted that the event also had a charitable purpose. In fact, the organizing company donated the equivalent of 10.000 meals to an association that helps abandoned and abused animals.
