Alex Garneau was 47 years old and was driving along Foothills Boulevard in Prince George, British Columbia, with her daughter Josie in the car.
It was around 2:20 p.m. on August 20, 2026. At that same moment, a Beech King Air 200 twin-engine plane operated by Sekani Air Ltd. was losing power in one of its engines and looking for somewhere to land. The pilot chose that road for an emergency landing. The aircraft struck four vehicles, including Alex’s. She died at the scene. Josie, seated beside her, got out of the car virtually uninjured.
Eight people were aboard the plane—two pilots and six passengers—and none suffered any injuries. On the ground, ten people were assessed and two were ultimately hospitalized in stable condition. Alex was known in her community as a youth hockey coach and volunteer, and leaves behind her husband Jordan and her two children, Josie and Jackson. A fundraiser for her family has already surpassed 99.000 dollars while the Transportation Safety Board investigates what went wrong with that engine.
