Barrett Walsh was 2 years old when his own siblings found him lifeless in the basement of their home in Frankfort, Illinois, on the afternoon of September 1.
A neighbor arrived first and began performing CPR, but the child already had no vital signs. Minutes later, Corie Walsh, 40, was found in a bathtub, injuring herself with a knife. The autopsy confirmed that Barrett died from asphyxiation.
During the interrogation, Walsh began singing her own version of a tune from The Wizard of Oz. She told investigators that her son was ‘the devil’ and the ‘antichrist,’ and that she feared for her other two children. An 8-month-old baby was also in the house, unharmed. She now faces three counts of first-degree murder while her defense attempts to prove that she acted during a severe psychotic episode, unaware of what she was doing.
