Jamie Lee Curtis said it plainly.

In an interview with AARP magazine, the actress said that she and her husband, Christopher Guest, have watched “with wonder and pride as our son Thomas became our daughter Ruby”. Ruby is now 30, works as a video game editor, and lives as a transgender woman.

For 67-year-old Curtis, that journey taught her something she hadn’t seen before: that “gender is not fixed” and that life is a “constant metamorphosis”. She embraces this completely naturally, speaking in the voice of a mother who is there for her.

Ruby will marry her fiancé next year, and her own mother will officiate the ceremony. The couple don’t have any grandchildren yet, though the actress makes it clear: she hopes they will someday.
