Georgia Nonas, a 29-year-old mother living in Gateshead, England, opened her heart as she recalled the painful moment when she learned the truth about the health of her 8-year-old little boy.

The childhood dementia diagnosis came in July 2021, shattering the family’s plans after it was confirmed that Cody Carroll has Sanfilippo syndrome type A. The hereditary and degenerative condition began to show when he was one year old with ear infections and loss of speech.

His mother, together with Callin, the boy’s father, absorbed the news in absolute silence at the medical clinic, and today the child uses a wheelchair due to the progression of the disease. Georgia cares for Cody full-time and is seeking help from a team in Manchester to stop the epileptic seizures and brain damage he suffers.
