In Gyeonggi, South Korea, fiction got ahead of reality.
Millions watched “Teach You a Lesson” on Netflix this year and were outraged by the story of teachers destroyed by false accusations. Superintendent An Min-suk decided that it would not remain on the screen: he signed the protocol for a real agency that will do exactly what the series showed, but in the day-to-day life of schools.
The agency has two arms: an emergency team called 119, with 50 officials dedicated solely to defending unjustly accused teachers, and an integrated legal unit that supports each case from the complaint through the teacher’s recovery.
More than 1,800 people applied for those 50 positions. An Min-suk summed it up this way: teachers will no longer be alone.
