Kimberly Still worked as a nurse at Northside Hospital Gwinnett in Georgia. There, she met an elderly patient who, rather than talking about her own illness, kept repeating just one concern: what would happen to Jax, her small chihuahua, when she was no longer there.
When the woman died, no one in her family could take care of the dog. Jax ended up in a shelter, facing an uncertain fate. Kimberly did not forget him. She went to get him, adopted him, and gave him the stable home she had promised her patient before saying goodbye to her forever.
Keeping that promise earned her the DAISY Award in June 2022, an honor that recognizes nurses for providing deeply human care. Jax now lives with Kimberly, honoring the memory of a woman who only wanted peace for her best friend. 🐾
