Christian Vieler does not chase puppies jumping in front of the camera.
He looks for something different: completely white muzzles, eyes tired from looking with loyalty for so long, scars that tell stories spanning entire years. Each of his portraits is a tribute to the dogs the world often ignores, the old ones who no longer run as fast but still deserve a place on a warm little couch.
Behind the photos lies a harsh reality: older dogs are the last to leave shelters. While families line up for puppies, they wait for entire years, sometimes a whole lifetime, for someone to look at them and see not their age, but the tenderness they still have to give. Vieler’s work changes that perspective, one photograph at a time.
