A recording captured by a security camera sparked outrage in Shelby, North Carolina, after showing a police officer repeatedly striking a Black woman during an arrest.
The footage shows Cherrie Moore being knocked to the ground and receiving several blows while another officer tries to intervene to stop the situation. During the procedure, the woman also asked for help for mental health problems and explained that she was not taking her medication.
After the video was released, officer Karson Hyder was fired and charged with assault for alleged excessive use of force. According to the investigation, the woman suffered facial injuries, including a possible broken nose and injuries to her lips.
