Sergio Luis González was 41 years old, originally from Charata, Chaco, and was serving a six-and-a-half-year sentence at Penitentiary Complex II in Presidencia Roque Sáenz Peña. On June 27 he began to feel such severe abdominal pain that they had to rush him to Hospital 4 de Junio.
There, doctors discovered something they were not expecting: a Samsung J7 phone lodged in his rectum. They operated to remove it, but the diagnosis was already serious, acute perforative abdomen with peritoneal perforation, and he remained hospitalized in intensive care, fighting an infection that was spreading inside him.
This Monday his body could not hold on any longer. He died from septic shock resulting from that perforation. Now the Sáenz Peña Prosecutor’s Office, under prosecutor Gustavo Valero, has seized the medical record and ordered an autopsy, while the Penitentiary Service investigates how that cellphone got all the way in there.
