Dozens of pellets inside the body. That was what they found when they performed the necropsy on a female puma found dead on the riverbank in Cajón del Maipo, Chile. Refugio Animal Cascada, a native wildlife rehabilitation center, was the one that received the alert and confirmed the worst: the animal had been shot. 🐾

It was not an accident or a natural predator. Someone took a weapon, aimed at an animal protected by law, and fired —more than once. The puma is protected under Chile’s Law No. 19.473, which expressly prohibits its hunting, capture, and commercialization. Whoever did it knew it was illegal.

And justice? So far, no one responsible has been identified or arrested. A threatened species shot to death, and the only response is silence. 🔴
