Pete is one year old, is afraid of loud noises, and barely knows New York. On May 14, while he was out walking with his owner in Brooklyn, his leash broke. Anyone would think a dog like that would get lost forever amid the noise and unfamiliar streets.
Pete didn’t hesitate. He ran nearly a mile (1,6 kilometers), dodging the city’s chaos, until he reached the glass door of Pooch Play and Stay, his usual daycare. There, he sat waiting, alone, until Grace Bodkin, the manager, saw him through the glass and let him in.
She gave him a bath because he arrived covered in dirt, called his owners, and then they took him to the vet: just a few minor scratches. The next day, Pete returned to daycare as if nothing had happened. Weeks later, he earned the title of “Dog of the Week” on Instagram, and the video of his solitary arrival is already making its way around the world.
