Sweet Pea was unlike the other cats.
They found her in a parking lot in central Arkansas, without either of her ears, as evidence of an animal cruelty case. No one knew exactly what had happened to her, only that she had survived something very difficult. When she arrived at Best Friends Animal Society and then at Erin Parker’s foster home, everyone expected to find a scared cat. Instead, they found a loving, calm cat hungry for attention.
Erin feared that people would only see the scars, so she asked her partner Chloe to hand-knit a pair of tiny ears, just for her. Sweet Pea accepted them without resistance and wore them around the house as if they had always been hers.
When Best Friends Animal Society shared her photos, thousands of hearts melted with tenderness. Soon after, Sweet Pea found a forever family, and took her crocheted ears with her.
