Michael O’Leary went out to dinner and ended up paying the price of his own fame.

The restaurant, in Ireland, added €7,95 to his bill for “extra legroom”, €9,95 for “priority seating” and €19,95 for a “quiet zone”. In total, €37,85 in charges that sounded suspiciously similar to the fees Ryanair, the airline O’Leary has run for more than two decades, charges its passengers for almost anything.

The bill was a joke, and those charges were never actually billed to him. But O’Leary wasn’t offended: he laughed, took a photo with the staff and left a generous tip before leaving. The man who turned low cost into an art form knew how to recognize, at least for one night, when the joke had been played well at his expense.
