A flipper is pressed against its face. An underwater photographer captured this sea turtle in the coastal waters of the Bahamas, and its expression looks like that of someone embarrassed to pose for a close-up.

In these shallow areas, turtles find food and places to rest. This one was photographed near the sandy bottom, with divers behind it and one flipper raised beside its face.
The pose doesn’t necessarily mean it’s shy: turtles may use their flippers to scratch or clean themselves. Perhaps that’s what it was doing at that moment. The camera captured this everyday movement, which looks like a shy portrait: a flipper beside its cheek.
