Dan Williams, 57, had been down on his luck for a while. He spent his hours outside a Wendy’s in DeSoto County when he saw a police officer approaching and thought the story would end badly.

Inside Edition

That wasn’t the case. Sergeant David McCoy sat down with him, they ordered food together, and between bites he heard something that shook him. Dan was trying to walk from Ohio to Louisiana to reunite with his family.

McCoy didn’t leave it there. He called other officers from the department, they all chipped in out of their own pockets, and together they raised the money so Dan could return home the way he should. Sometimes the police don’t catch anyone, they simply help someone get to where they belong.
