Yevette Vasquez had ten minutes to become a dad.
Her 10-year-old son Elijah told her that his school in Texas was holding “Donuts with Dad”, an event intended only for fathers. She didn’t hesitate: she ran home, put on a plaid shirt, a baseball cap, a wallet chain, and a fake mustache. She returned to school transformed, determined that her son wouldn’t miss out on anything.

When they entered the library together, the other dads started applauding her. She was so nervous that she didn’t even try her donut; she gave the whole thing to Elijah. She would later say that she knows how difficult it is for him to see other children with their fathers, and that she will do anything to make him smile.
