An old post by Rocío López Bueno, better known as Roro, went viral again and ended up sparking a major controversy on social media, especially among Peruvian users.
It all began when a screenshot resurfaced in which, at 17 years old, she replied “Never 🤮” when asked whether she was Peruvian. Although the comment was posted several years ago, its recent spread prompted accusations of xenophobia and a wave of criticism.
After learning about the controversy, the influencer used her Instagram stories to give her version of events and apologize.
“The comment you have seen, I made it when I was 17. I was an ignorant child and I found the meme that existed in Spain about Peru funny”, she explained.
Roro assured that today, at 24 years old, she thinks very differently and regretted having offended those who felt affected.
“I sincerely apologize if I have offended anyone”, she wrote, adding that Peru is one of her favorite countries and that she considers its cuisine to be among the best in the world.
The episode reopened the debate over whether a person should continue to be judged for posts made during adolescence or whether, on the contrary, apologies and the passage of time should also be taken into account.
