An alleged spiritual ritual ended up becoming a case that caused outrage in Sincelejo, Colombia. On May 17, 2026, authorities arrested a pastor named Deivis Sierra Méndez, accused of sexually abusing a woman while claiming he had to “remove a spirit from her”.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the man allegedly psychologically manipulated the victim to take her to a room and commit the abuse, taking advantage of the trust she had in him as a religious leader.

Afterward, he allegedly even asked her to keep quiet. Following the complaint, a judge ordered him sent to prison while the proceedings for violent carnal access move forward.
