Terfel no longer wanted to move. Cataracts had robbed him of his sight, and the Labrador, once playful and curious, kept bumping into furniture until he ended up taking refuge in his bed. His world fit into a cushion.
Then Pwditat appeared, a stray cat who came into Judy Godfrey-Brown’s home in Holyhead, North Wales, and changed everything. No one taught her anything. She approached slowly, nudged him with her paws and, little by little, began leading him around the house, steering him around obstacles. One day she took him out into the garden again. She had become his eyes.
“I had never seen anything like it”, Judy said. “The cat seemed to know that Terfel was blind and decided to be his guide.”
From then on, they walked side by side and slept curled up together: a dog who couldn’t see and a cat who never left his side.
